Exotic Currencies

Exotic currencies are illiquid and can be highly volatile. They also lack market depth and are traded at low volumes. Usually synonymous with developing countries or emerging markets, exotic currencies are often subject to partial or total exchange rate controls that render them nonconvertible.

Emerging Market Currencies

Emerging market currencies are those used in countries considered emerging markets (EMs). It is a term that has no precise definition but generally refers to nations in a transition state between developing and developed.

These countries have often had several years of robust economic growth. They are expected to continue to grow rapidly and possibly experience a period of political, social, or demographic transition. This makes it easier for them to integrate economies with other countries globally.
